Seems I'm always seeing someone's opinion of the best movie ever filmed but what about the worst movie?

Many people will tell you that Troll 2 from 1989 is their choice as the worst movie ever made. Why should you care?

Well it turns out you can do quite well by making a terrible movie. Troll 2 combined some of the worst acting and filmmaking technique ever seen with incomprehensible storytelling. When it was first released it quickly disappeared from theaters and reviewers mentions and everyone involved seem determined to forget it like you might want to forget having passed gas in a crowded room.

Then something strange happened.

The Worst Movie That Wouldn't Die

The film started showing up in in smaller theaters in midnight showings to often sold-out audiences. It seems that even a terrible movie can be highly entertaining, at least to the right audience. Decades after its embarrassing premiere Troll 2 has become a cult favorite.

Now a new chapter has emerged as Michael Stephenson, the now grown actor who played the little boy in Troll 2, as a made a documentary about the initial failure and stunning rebirth of the film.

The documentary is called Best Worst Movie and the DVD is now waiting on a shelf at your local DVD rental emporium. Go get it! It's a darm good movie that explores and illuminates the power of movies and art in general to fascinate us all.

If you can't find it locally then request it from Netflix where you can also instantly watch Troll 2 streaming over the Internet.

What's the lesson in all this? If you can't make a great film then make a truly terrible film. There are many paths to success in life as well as in filmmaking.
